St Kilda, or Elwood both are great beaches although St Kilda beach is closer to Ackland St (great cakes and food) and also Luna Park.
has to be St Kilda beach, just watch out though,St Kilda is just a bit rough, Prostitues/drugs etc.
so long as your a bit careful you'll be fine.
What the other say, but if you want to go to a great beach Torquay is about 1hr away and is the surf capital of Australia, awesome dude.
